Changing of the Season

Do you remember the mysterious fruits from my backyard?  Well, many of you let me know they are apples.  And YES!  They were!
In August, some apples started to drop on the ground, so my husband and my son impatiently picked the very green apples which were still very sour!  I had to do something with them, so I baked the apple cakes several times.

Now lots of apples are on the ground and also eaten by small creatures.  They didn't turn in red color like I expected, but they are decently sweet.  What kind of apples are they???  They are not shiny like granny smith.

Today was beautiful autumn day here in Northern California and I didn't mind open up the windows and cook in the kitchen.  I went out in the backyard and picked some apples.  Then, I cut up about 12 apples and cooked about 30 minutes.  Voila!  I have 8 jars of delicious homemade applesauce!  Yum yum.
My next harvest from our backyard is persimmons.  They just started to become slightly orange!  It looks like this one is Hachiya persimmons.  Can't wait!
Changing of the season is sometime become moving season.  One of my longtime quilt students is moving back to Japan.  We had a fun gathering the other day not to say good-bye, but to promise our continuous quilt friendship!  These are the friendship quilts for her.  Yoko-san, we will miss you!!!
Happy Autumn!
